Thanks, Julien! Maybe I'll try to stumble through it and pretend to understand (much as I did around when you last saw me, wandering the streets of Paris).

Suck mon Geek!

Jason, the French documentary is available in full here

http://www.stage6.com/user/Dholyan/video/1926504/Suck-My-Geek

The movie itself starts at 2:37. Takes forever to load though.

According to their website (in French), they're currently in talks with Warner Bros for a potential American remake.

Church:
Thanks for the link! I'm looking forward to his book. I'm curious, too, to see how he deals with research (e.g., Bishop et al. 2004) that suggests that kids do want good grades and to do well in class—it's the outward display of hard/enthusiastic work (among other behaviors that signal a kid as uninterested in "normal" activities) that gets kids labeled as nerds.

Mudd:
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to get my hands on that issue.

Hey Jason - in respose to comments on a post a while back, the article on girl geeks in Bitch magazine ("The (girl) geek stands alone: Hollywood even has a double standard for dorks") is in the "Lost and Found" issue (#38) - definitely check it out!
