Look, the boat is going to get built a *hell* of a lot faster if we don't have to keep taking breaks to watch programs on the coconut TV he built. OK? OK.

Jason,

Maybe they wouldn't have called you Professor if you hadn't have the following lessons planned:

Making a Coconut into a TV
Good Design Using Palm Trees
How not to build a Boat, but instead a VCR out of things found on a tropic island.

I think it’s more of a nickname than a title at this point.

Like when my colleagues call me "jerkface!"

Not technically Dr. Tocci yet, but my students do insist upon calling me "Professor." Not "Professor Tocci," just "Professor," like the guy on Gilligan's Island. I think it's more of a nickname than a title at this point.

So, um, Mr. Tocci...are you then DR. TOCCI? If so, prehaps you wouldn't mind changing your "about" page to reflect same. See, some of us depend on the internet for our everyday world updates!

I picked up a class this semester (for the first time in a while) and I've been amazed at the grappling with technology on both sides of the lectern. The school I'm in caters in part to adult students (ahem) so the age distribution is pretty wide. If anything, the older students are more adept with the ancillary tech than the younger ones (obviously, there's a degree of self-selection going on here.)

The professors are all over the map as well. It's harder to judge them, however, because the tech they end up administering (class forums, etc.) are weirdly low-end. Off-the-shelf BBS systems like vBulletin have far more capabilities than the 'class forum' software that the University has set up. It's just bizarre.
